Synopsis
Architects plans for the stately Parliament House in Spring St, Melbourne, show the building replete with a dome, but this was never built. The same building was used for Federal Parliament from 1901-27 before Parliament House, Canberra, was built. This meant another Parliament House was needed for the Victorian Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. Author Marc Fiddian tells of the relocation to the nearby Exhibition Buildings and that building's refitting as houses of parliament. Apart from the Melbourne scene, the author studies the other Australian parliament buildings before focusing on Wellington, New Zealand, London and the North American Capitols.
