Synopsis
Rocky Place is a short street that leads down to the sea in the coastal village of Wintersea. In an attempt to regenerate their failing marriage, Quentin and Lyn sell their city home and move there to live. One of their two children has become uncontrollable, further complicating their relationship. They have just started life in their new house when a dispute develops with their neighbours, a licentious family whose lives appear to revolve around loud music, bumper stickers and sex. The problems that arise from this conflict start affecting other residents of Rocky Place, together with both the children and friends of the two families. In the heat of summer events become increasingly fraught, leading to a horrific tragedy that no one saw coming, but many people could have stopped. ‘We’re all to blame,’ said Lyn. ‘Every one of us.’
About the Author
Nicholas Day-Lewis is the son of the late English Poet Laureate, Cecil Day-Lewis, and a half-brother to Daniel, the triple Oscar winning actor. He was born in Cheltenham, England, in 1934, and following his attendance at Sherborne School and Oxford University, where he read Engineering, he emigrated to South Africa before moving to Australia. On retirement he obtained a Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing at the Centre for Adult Education in Melbourne. He now lives in Somers on the Mornington Peninsula, where he writes, plays music with his partner, Margaret, and enjoys his garden. Rocky Place is his first novel to be published.
